Dealing with contractions
Every birth takes a lot of energy and feels different for everyone. Your body naturally produces painkillers (endorphins) to relieve the pain. Stress and anxiety can disrupt this process. That is why it is important to stay as relaxed as possible during childbirth.
What helps with relaxation during childbirth?
Provide a warm environment, this helps your muscles relax.
Use a hot water bottle, take a bath or shower.
Switch positions and try what feels comfortable for you.
Focus on your breathing to experience the pain less intensely.
Have your lower back massaged for extra relief.
Create a nice atmosphere, like your own pillow or music in the hospital.
Choose who you want at the birth, in addition to your partner, a family member or friend can give support.
